Elaine has worked with children of all ages in childcare for seven years and loves what she does. She started working at Kids’ Place in August 2018.

In addition to working with children, Elaine likes to walk, swim, and dance.

Joy McMahon, Assistant Teacher

Joy worked with elementary age children for three years prior to joining the teaching team at Kids’ Place. She has her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She started working at Kids’ Place in August 2017.

In addition to working with children, Joy likes to sing, read, and watch NBA games.

Her current favorite children’s book is: It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny by Marilyn Sadler.

Angela Thongdy, Lead Teacher

Angela has worked in licensed childcare for over fifteen years, as a teacher and director. She has an associate’s degree in early childhood education and a certificate in child and family services. She has worked at Kids’ Place since May 2014.

In addition to working with children, Angela likes photography, crafts, and walks.

Her current favorite children’s book is: Everybody Needs a Rock by Byrd Baylor.

Maeve Duffy, Assistant Teacher

Meave has worked in licensed childcare for over three years. She has an associate’s degree in early childhood education. She has worked at Kids’ Place since December 2015.

In addition to working with children, Maeve likes singing, mystery True Crime, and cats.

Her current favorite children’s book is: Chikka Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault.

Maria Ramos, Lead Teacher

Maria has worked with children of all ages for over fifteen years. She has an associate’s degree in early childhood education. She started working at Kids’ Place in May 2016.

In addition to working with children, Maria likes to walk and garden.

Laura Tomsheck, Lead Teacher

Laura worked in elementary education for several years prior to joining the preschool teaching team. She has a bachelor’s degree in art and design with a focus on ceramics and photography. She has a masters in teaching with a focus in reading and language arts. She has worked at Kids’ Place since June 2018.

In addition to working with children, Laura likes art, reading, gardening, movies, and wine.

Her current favorite children’s books are: Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean and The Curious Garden by Peter Brown.

Libbie Schille, Assistant Teacher

Libbie has worked with children and families for over fifteen years. She worked with families in the United States Air Force dealing with a wide range of challenges. She also worked in public schools special education classrooms as a paraeducator. She is trained in trauma-informed practice and conscious discipline management. Libbie has an associate’s degree in early childhood education and is currently completing her bachelor of education. She has worked at Kids’ Place since January 2019.

In addition to working with children, Libbie likes building furniture and working on her home.

Her current favorite children’s books is: The Bad Seed by Joy John.

Ruby Chavez, Assistant Teacher

Ruby has volunteered in public schools for over ten years. She currently studies early childhood education at Walla Walla Community College. She volunteered during the fall of 2017 while completing her practicum. She started working at Kids’ Place in January 2018.

In addition to working with children, Ruby likes to walk, drive, and travel.

Her current favorite children’s book is: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin, Jr.

Audrey Burr, Assistant Teacher

Audrey grew up working in a preschool with her mom in Seattle. She worked as an Au pair in Germany. Audrey is currently studying enology and viticulture at Walla Walla Community College. She has worked at Kids’ Place since January 2018.

In addition to working with children, Audrey likes cooking, baking, and gardening.

Her current favorite children’s books is: Roxaboxen by Barbara Cooney.

Amanda Archer, Substitute Teacher

Amanda has over five years’ experience working with elementary school age children. She has a bachelors in special education. She has worked at Kids’ Place since August 2018.

In addition to working with children, Amanda likes reading and guitar.

Her current favorite children’s books are: The Pigeon, Piggy, and Elephant books by Mo Willems.

Annelise has worked in childcare as a nanny for several families. She currently attends Whitman College and studies environmental humanities and music. She started working at Kids’ Place in May 2018.

In addition to working with children, Annelise enjoys singing, reading, and hanging out with friends.

Jeremiah Russo, Assistant

Jeremiah has volunteered and worked in early childhood for over ten years. He has the unique advantage of both having been a child at Kids’ Place as well as now an assistant teacher. He has an associate’s degree in early childhood education and a certificate in elementary education. He started working at Kids’ Place in June 2013.

In addition to working with children, Jeremiah likes to walk his dog Theo, knit, and play video games.

Her current favorite children’s book is: Hands are Not for Hitting by Martine Agassi.

Julia Leavitt, Executive Director

Julia has over ten years’ experience working with children and families. She worked for two years in public schools; four years in community organizing; and non-profit management. She has tutored and mentored during the past fifteen years. She has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, a State Early Childhood Education Certificate, and the equivalent of an associate’s degree in early childhood education. She has worked at Kids’ Place since June 2015.

In addition to working with children, Julia likes gardening, walking, traveling, and solving mysteries.

Her current favorite children’s book is: Little Bear by Elsie Holmeland Minarik.

Pressy Clay, Assistant

Pressy has worked at area childcare centers and the Parks and Recreation summer program for over four years. She currently studies early childhood education at Walla Walla Community College. She has worked at Kids’ Place since February 2019.

In addition to working with children, Pressy likes bowling, singing, and spending time with friends and family.

Her current favorite children’s book is: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff.

Nicole Thongdy, Custodian

Nicole has cared for children at are childcare centers and volunteered at Kids’ Place during the past four years. She currently studies to receive her associate’s degree at Walla Walla Community College. She has worked at Kids’ Place since March 2018.

In addition to working with children, Nicole likes drawing, painting, sports, and playing video games.

Her current favorite children’s books are: Dr. Seuss books like Cat in the Hat and The Lorax.

Kristin, Substitute Teacher

Kristin has worked as a teacher assistant in area childcare for over two years. Previously she worked as a camp counselor for twelve years. She has an associate’s degree in early childhood education. She has worked at Kids’ Place since February 2019.

In addition to working with children, Kristin likes camping, singing, and snowmobiling.

Her current favorite children’s books is: Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney.
